Haarlem
Voorhoutstraat 12
Description
A beautiful, completely renovated, and luxurious family home. This was the second home of Harry Mulisch (lived there from 1933–1938), the author of The Discovery of Heaven, The Assault, and Siegfried. A house with character, with history – and now ready for a new chapter. You step inside and won’t want to leave.
The home has been renovated with exceptional care and love, leaving nothing to chance. Every detail is perfect – you won’t need to do anything else. With six rooms, a beautiful west-facing backyard, a front garden, and a southeast-facing balcony. From the very first step, you feel it: this is no ordinary home. The filtered daylight through the yellow-blue-red stained glass casts warm color shades across the sleek herringbone floor with border – a combination that immediately sets the tone. Old and new, character and comfort, seamlessly interwoven. The living room features an atmospheric bay window with an exterior view and a built-in fireplace that makes the space warm and inviting. Through en-suite doors, you enter the spacious eat-in kitchen, where a second luxury fireplace forms the centerpiece alongside the fully equipped Bulthaup kitchen with a Belgian bluestone floor. Outside, the atmosphere continues seamlessly: the wood-burning stove is lit by the canopy in the backyard, while built-in heaters under the covered veranda ensure comfort during long evenings.
This corner house features a private rear entrance – a rare practical advantage in this neighborhood.
The home is fully automated. You control the lighting, curtains, alarm, and smoke detectors via the home automation system – currently connected to a monitoring center. Foot lighting runs throughout the house, along the stairs, and outside in the garden. The outdoor patio heating is also home automation controlled. Underfloor heating is located on the ground floor and second floor, as well as in the bathroom on the first floor.
The location is fantastic! On the corner of Welgelegenstraat and Voorhoutstraat, a one-minute walk from the Haarlemmerhout – the oldest city forest in the Netherlands – and Frederikspark. For a delicious cup of coffee, you can visit Theehuis De Haarlemmerhout, and the highly-rated restaurants Fris and Parck are also just around the corner. By bike, you can reach the beaches of Bloemendaal or Zandvoort in half an hour. Major roads are easily accessible and public transport is within reach: various buses stop on Kamperlaan and Rustenburgerlaan heading towards Haarlem NS Station, Amsterdam, and Schiphol. The N200, A200, and A9 are also very quickly accessible.
